RA-C: Fluid-solid phase change interaction

This RA deals with swelling, precipitation and hardening of material depending on various coupled multi-component multi-phase processes, where the solid phase is involved. The surface structure of the solid matrix changes, immediate and complete deposition of the solid constituents, however, is not necessary. Application examples include environmental evaporation of brine which results in salt precipitation, biological materials, e.g. vertebroplasty, fixation of implants, application of therapeutic agents, new methods to deliver materials, multiple injection sides including needleless injection, and non-conventional energy storage where the phase change enthalpy is used to store and release cyclically available energy, e.g., generated through renewable energy sources as solar or wind power.
